M. Cross has always liked the kind of problem that doesn’t actually matter. Not the urgent kind, with deadlines and consequences, but the quiet kind you solve because it’s satisfying to solve, and stop just as easily if you feel like doing something else instead.

That interest turned into a habit of making puzzles rather than just solving them, first for friends, then for whoever would sit still long enough to try one. Double Take Word Search was simply the first idea that felt worth turning into a proper book. It’s unlikely to be the last.

M. Cross designs puzzles the way most people would like a Sunday to go: unhurried, a little playful, and over before it gets tedious. Difficulty is never really the point. The small, private moment of finally seeing it is.

M. Cross has a drawer full of half-finished puzzle ideas and no particular intention of throwing any of them out.
